Day 1 in the books, or maybe I should say, in the oven!
If you can’t stand the heat...
OK, we’ve landed in the oven, otherwise known as PGA Village, FL.Coming from the recent 50-60 degree weather we’ve had in MN, we are doing all we can do to survive the 90 degree weather and high humidity.
Backing up some…our trip here yesterday was thankfully, uneventful, arriving at our destination about 3:00.After getting our business done of registering, Jordan went out to hit some balls and do a little chipping and putting.Unfortunately the practice greens had been recently aerated and top-dressed with sand so not much time was spent on that activity.Considering Jordan was very tired from the early morning (and packing her Macalester life away almost all night the previous night) we decided to call it a day.
Today it was time to get down to business with the first practice round.Playing with a couple of the other individuals who qualified from Maryville Univ. and Central College, it was a busy round of familiarizing ourselves with the golf course, with lots of greenside shots and lots of bottles of water!Jordan hit many good shots and it became evident that getting from tee to green will be the easy part as the game changes once we get to the greens.Very large and very undulating, putting will be a great challenge for everyone…maybe we’ll just pretend this is the Masters!Though the round was played at a good pace, it seemed like a very long day battling the intense heat. We’re retiring early again tonight, saving energy for the next 5 days- 1 more practice day to fine-tune the game for this course and the conditions and then 4 days of competition for Jordan to wrap up her collegiate career.
Congratulations and good luck, Jordan. Can't wait to see the results.
